VESSEL FORMS

These sculptural vessel forms explore inner spaces in relation to outer skins, both as objects within themselves, and as three dimensional drawings; where open interwoven and knotted forms hold a dialogue with both the fixed planes close by and the linear shadows they cast.

Some of these forms emerge as simple bowls, while others become more anthropomorphic and totemic in expression and detail. The burnishing, staining, abrading, shadowing and marking of surfaces continues the dialogue I quietly have with each piece, and that which it has in relation to others within a series.

Simplicity of form and tactility of surface echoes ancient artefacts and ritual practices whilst holding contemporary resonance, where material presence is balanced with fragility and impermanence.

WALL PIECES

Some pieces are set within a framework, others simply float on the wall or are suspended in space, while some collaged works respond to grounds of weathered slate or burned wood, as with the vessel forms.

Layered fragments of paper, cloth, and thread create a transient interplay of light and shadow, forming ever-changing landscapes across the strata of surface and stitched detail.
