A new short film sharing glimpses of my studio practice will be featured as part of…
'Over the last year, by necessity, we’ve grown more introspective, more insular and more aware of our interconnectedness. We’ve had to acknowledge our permeable national boundaries, shared air, the limits of personal space. The artists who work with browngrotta arts have coped with the changes in various ways — moving locations, taking up art photography, taking new inspiration from nature. These recent adaptations are just some of the many reasons artists make changes in their art practice — a material becomes unavailable (willow) or a new one suggests itself (fiber optic, bronze, copper, steel, kibisio, akebia), a move in the US from the East to the South or from one country to another or from the city to the desert, a change in physical abilities (allergy, injury), an altered personal relationship, or a commission opportunity or an exhibition challenge. We will explore this theme this Spring, in browngrotta arts' Art in the Barn exhibition, Adaptation: Artists Respond to Change
The exhibition will be accompanied by a full-colour catalogue (our 51st)

“There is a fascinating story behind each name, and each canvas, included in this book,” writes Pernilla Holmes, curator of England: Talking of Art, in her introduction to this catalogue, “I hope anyone looking through will take the opportunity to learn about and further research the great artists on every page. Each canvas is beautiful – not only for its ideas and aesthetics, but for its desire to be part of a global community that says yes...”. Imago Mundi dedicates its 160th collection to English contemporary art: a collection that talks about our real life and its implied and mysterious truth through the creative vision of 132 artists, both masters that have already been written into the books of art history - such as Richard Long, Langlands and Bell, Jake e Dinos Chapman, the late Susan Hiller and many others -, and many young artists with brilliant practices.
England: Talking of Art. Contemporary Artists from England is an Imago Mundi collection, a cultural, democratic, global, non-profit project, promoted by Luciano Benetton with the aim of creating the widest possible mapping of the different contemporary artistic experiences of our world. In Imago Mundi, each country is represented by the works of established artists and new talents, commissioned with the maximum freedom of expression, whose only constraint is the 10x12 cm format.

More than 50 international artists, reflecting five continents, will take an expansive look at identity and art in a global world in browngrotta arts’ 2019 Art in the Barn exhibition, Art + Identity: an international view. The identity that each explores may be personal, political, social or cultural; it may reflect the influence of a hometown, country of birth or adoption, a place visited, or a region whose art has made an impression, an artistic or scientific movement or a broader focus on the effects globalization. Works by artists from, or influenced by, North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the UK will create an intriguing an intriguing dialogue about the influence of culture, geography and personal experience and spur questions about the universality of art.

During this workshop we will be considering the line, through observation, markmaking and interpretation. Using these start points we will explore linear and spatial relationships, and different ways of introducing ‘content’ and detail with fibres and yarns.
With supportive mentoring and shared inspiration, the sessions are designed to encourage participants to notice detail, challenge usual approaches, and be aware of their creative responses; developing the confidence to take risks with their ideas and nurture their own creative voice.
